Salam 'alaykum all,

I'm off to Umrah tomorrow, can't actually believe I'm going, Visas came through last minute alhamdulillah! I am excited beyond words!

Please forgive me if I have ever wronged any of you, forgive me for my bad manners, bad humour, bad everything. I'm a sinner and a needy, weak servant of God.

Remember us in your du'as, pray we get there safely, you will all be in my du'as at the haramain insha Allah.

Take care all wasalam.

Most films that are hyped up so much end up dissappointing, this didn't though. Action packed and interestng themes. A bit long though, my butt was aching from sitting for so long!

I thought the Joker was the best thing in the film, I have a soft spot for pyscho anarchists.

How can you like Batman!? Astaghfirullah. Batman's haram! He's a vigilante, in the Shariah he would probably be arrested and given 70 lashes, and a further 70 lashes for dressing in effeminate clothing, yeah I'm calling Batman a tranny, and what?! At least the Joker would not be accountable for his behaviour in the Shariah since he is obviously insane. biggrin.gif

His last words

His last words were
As-salah As-salah!
The Prayer! The Prayer!

Speaks volumes of his most-blessed character
Last few breaths exhaled used as a reminder
For the first thing we will be questioned over

On the dreaded Day of Qiyamah
He will say: My Ummah! My Ummah!
But he was doing that even in the Dunya

More worried for us than our own parents
More concerned for us than our ownselves
Iman perfected when he becomes beloved

His speech was 'jawami' al-kalam'
comprehensive, concise, eloquent
with a wealth of meaning behind them

Why 'As-salah! As-salah?'
To guard our prayer
Think fiqh -
learn the prayer
Salah comprised of
Shahadah and Qur'an
Du'a and Salawat
Dhikr, what else you want?

It's about jama'
congregating
uniting as one
Community is from
commune
the Mosque is our refuge
sanctuary from the refuse
Rows standing side by side
representing human variety
ranked according to piety only

The prayer is
physical movements for
metaphysical improvements
the ethos of the Shari'ah
stabilty of everything worldly
for next worldly glory
Bow down then prostrate
humble your intellect
raise the heart above your mind
This is the way Angels pray
up in heaven's hallways

Revelation was sent down
for Sawm, Zakat, Hajj
But as for
As-Salah! As-Salah!
The Prophet was taken up
into highest heavens
to receive the 5 prayers
The prayer's our mi'raj
remoteness from shaytan
conversating with God
slave or free-man
Proof of our Iman
Action not empty psalms
Ending with salams
right then left
East and West
All peoples are safe
under Islam

You see now why
As-Salah! As-Salah?
Prayer's the answer
Prayer's the reason
Seasons change
Worship's constant
we leave this world behind
Life is fleeting
Matter is evanescent
whispers of prayer
transcendent

As-Salah! As-Salah!
His words were urgent
Allah is the King
Salah the agent

Our Prophet
Unending peace
and blessings upon him
Mercy to the world

He wanted for us
to know our Lord!
As-Salah! As-Salah!

Those were his last words.

صلى الله عليه وسلم

Dominant Zeitgeist

Dunyaism the dominant Zeitgeist/ God conciousness dormant/ The great Religion heist/
Saints get trod on like doormats/ most don't know they open gnostic doors/
raise eyes to Jannah floors/
But people don't look up to the stars no more/ eyes prised firmly on dunya's floor/
Like cattle grazing on grass/ but these fields won't last/
Stars?/ Pop stars/ Soap stars/ Movie stars/ stars in your eyes?
Moon to their sunrise/ wise eyes look past skies/ into heaven's firmament/
Occupied by selfless superstars/ the constellation of sahabas/
The Prophet said/ choose any of his companions for guidance/ and you'll be guided/
But path to God can get lonely/ highway to hell crowded/
Mark the world with your carbon footprint/ or by dhikr imprint/
Eyes gotta look through Qur'anic tint/ Nur can blind you
Ayat means stars too/ each verse of the Quran has galaxy of meaning around it/ don't get it miss..con..strued/
Untrained eyes sees them jumbled/ but true astronomers traverse like experts/ the rest fumble/
Knowledge not classically bound/ playing hop scotch in devil's playground/
Physically or metaphysically/ everyone gets punched around/
We all slaves but with different masters/ Imam or Pastor/ someone'll blast ya/
What are indignities?/ when weighed on the scales of eternity?
Go against the grain of spiritual dementia/ abandoning speech from false dentures/
Most world leaders senile/ more dangerous than enriched uranium/
Bunch of penile craniums/
Leadership changes hands/ superpower transfers to other lands/
Move over America/ it's all about India and China/
Truss/ It'll be same thing/ just different skin colour/
Status quo will always be Islam hater/
It don't matter/ we in the game of serving daw'ah platter/
Those meant to eat will eat/ others will soon feel the heat/
Witnesses against mankind/ witnesses for past messengers/
Witness this/ it ain't conjecture/
There is no god but Allah
And Muhammad is his Messenger

Salams,

"Where's the evidence of the transitional forms?"

This is a good FAQ on transitional fossils, also explains why there are gaps - http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-transitional.html.

"In any event, evolutionists are hard-pressed to show examples of even 1 successful mutation (something that improves an organism)."

I find that hard to believe, I remember seeing many convincing examples in David Attenborough's documentaries. This young scientist's blog has a few - 1 and 2

I feel more persuaded by these arguments; evolution does seem to take place in animals. I don't see how it goes against our aqidah either. We don't accept the way evolution is taught (random mutation etc). Allah is the Creator of all creatures, but why can't evolution be a means of how creation develops on Earth? Allah (swt) being the Designer and Originator of all of it, Allah creates the cause and effect. We don't have to accept everything the evolutionists say, they themselves don’t agree with each other on everything. We reject any theory that says we are not the descendents of Adam and Hawa (alayhuma as salam). [Although there are traditions in our deen that say transmutation can occur - human beings cursed by Allah turning into pigs or monkeys. Maybe Dawkins' ancestor is the orangutan]

Regards to the 4 limbs gene, I'm sure they have some theory for this as well, I mean they have a theory for something even more fantastical such as spontaneous generation

I still think the fact HY is not a scientist is significant, he just isn't taken seriously

If a young Muslim biology student is exposed to the evolutionist teaching in their studies then reads HY's stuff and thinks "this is the best answer 'Islam' can come up with", I fear what consequences it will have on their Iman.

My strongest argument against (human) evolution are two things - language and morality. As per Chomsky who shows language/grammar is innate, something that seems to be pre-programmed in us, not evolved from animals. Some also think the same applies to morality, there is reason to believe a moral code is built within us. They call it the “moral instinct”, we call it fitra.

Thanks for the stimulating discussion.

Why

Aha
It’s that real
Yo, why is Borderline as hard as it gets?
Why is the World Bank designed to keep the Third World in debt?
Why they killing over oil as the planet dies from greenhouse gas?
Why is the leader of the “freeworld” an Ass?
Why are children stabbing each other?
Why they selling cheap heroin to my brother?
Why do people get high?
Why they escaping from reality to live a lie?
Why they ignore the IDF’s lies?
Why did they just stand by while the children of Lebanon died?
Why they complaining over border crossing immigrants?
Where was the invitation when the colonialists stole from our continent?
Why do they associate criminality with the coloured race?
Why do most peadophiles have a white face?
Why is consumerism the religion of our time?
Why spend on junk when most of the world is below the poverty line?
Why is Soulja Boy on every dance floor?
While ****y Tardust just gets ignored.
Why they claim to follow the ascetic Prophet?
Why is Xmas materialistic and all about the profit?
Why the children of Abraham bickering?
Why are India and Pakistan fighting?
Don’t they know they’re genetically kin?
Why can’t we all win?
Why are the rich so selfish?
Why is modern life hellish?

[Chorus]
All that I been givin’
Is this thing that I’ve been living
They got me in the system
Why they gotta do me like that?
Try’d to make it my way
But got sent up on the highway
Why, oh why?
Why they gotta do me like that?

Why do people vie for power?
Why did Atta knock down the towers?
Why do terrorists claim Islam then act like cowards?
Why do Western armies cluster bomb like cowards?
Why does the ego love feeding?
Why are atheist hearts arrogantly bleeding?
Why is Dawkins taken seriously?
Is the Baboon really his ancestry?
Why are we exploring deep space?
Don’t they know Imam Ali said the Universe is within us?
Why did Sandro Hijack the 177 Bus?
Do the poor say the rich have failed us?
Why do we Muslims blame the world for our problems?
Doesn’t Allah say nothing will change unless we change our ownselves?
Why is the Middle East in crisis?
What did we do to deserve this?
Why did the Arabs reject the Ottoman Caliphate?
Why did they get in bed with the British to create their own state?
Why did they wave the Nationalistic flag wearing the uniform of Marxism?
Why have they now swapped it for Islamism?
Why does USA spend billions on Israel?
When Americans are homeless living lives miserable.
Why do old people fear to tread the streets?
Why is Jadakiss spittin’ the hottest ‘ish but selling the least?

All that I been givin’
Is this thing that I’ve been living
They got me in the system
Why they gotta do me like that?
Try’d to make it my way
But got sent up on the highway
Why, oh why?
Why they gotta do me like that?

Uh, yeah, yo
Why does the man hold a crusader sword in the statue for the Oscar?
What are they trying to conquer?
Why are they after our hearts and minds?
Why is love for the world blind?
Why is spirituality bankrupt?
Why are saints dying leaving the world to the corrupt?
Why are people paranoid?
Why are the rest gullible like a preprogrammed android?
Why did they murder my sister Abeer Janabi?
Do they think they escaped justice from the Day of Calamity?
Why did they rape the great African cities?
Why is rape a weapon for African rebel armies?
Why did they commit genocide on the Native American?
Why did they slaughter spiritual men and women?
Are they now living the curse they put on them?
Why are they on the side of the anti-Christ?
Why are buildings nearly touching the sky?
Why do the years fly by?
Why is adultery rife?
What do these signs imply?
Why am I even alive?
I’m here to know my Lord
Thats why.

It Was a Good Day (Ice Cube joint)

Just waking up in the morning gotta thank God
I don’t know but today seems kinda odd
Woke up early for fajr with no alarm clock
Salah in jama’, Quran, dhikr, didn’t want it to stop
And momma cooked breakfast with no ghee
So I got my grub on, but all of it healthy
Finally got a call from Imam been seeking out
He gonna represent in our Mosque no doubt
Hooked it up for later as I hit the do’
Thinking will I live, another twenty fo’
I gotta go cos I got me a lap top
And if I hit the switch I can make the screen flop
Got on the tube without a fight
Looked around, not a jacker in sight
And everything is alright
I got a text from Asim and they do dhikr all night
Called up the brother and I’m asking ya'll
Which park, you playing football?
Get me on the pitch and I’m playing sick
Last week messed around and got a double hat-trick
Freaking brothaz every way like Pele
I can’t believe, today was a good day

{ - }

Drove to the pad and got my ghusl on
Didn’t even get no static from po po
Cause just yesterday them fools tried to stop’n search me
Saw Shaytan and he rolled right past me
No flirtin’, just kept a lowered gaze
as I ran the fitna maze
Went to Jamal’s house and they was watching Hamza Yusuf tapes
What’s the haps on Jummu’ah my papes?
Shake em up, shake em up, shake em up, shake em
6 brothers, 1 car and watch me fit em
With the seven, 12-fifty seven, 12-fifty seven
Made it to Mosque Imam talking about heaven
Inspirational khutba with no yelling
Left Mosque with a motivated feeling
Then we discussed eateries
And I’m yelling biryanies!
Plus no negative media about Muslims today
Today was a good day

{ - }

Left my brothers house fed strong
Picked up a book searching for since long
It’s ironic, I had the compass he had the mat
Out on road ‘Asr in, prayed 4 rakats
A good friend gave shahada, all delighted
Liverpool beat United
Then gave some charity secretly
Put money in a homeless persons hands discreetly
Read some prayers on the Prophet
Cos I had the Dalail in my pocket
Listened to Shaykh’s advice, so deep, so deep
Cried myself to sleep
Woke up around one
Dreamt Junayd telling me to get my prayer on
Dragged my body to wudu basin
Washed away traces of minor sin
Then made tawba for my sorry state
Prayed tahajjud with rakats eight
Today was like one of those fly dreams
Presence in prayer rose like high beams
No drunkards out in the streets
Three in the morning face kissed by a cool breeze
Even saw the stars in the sky for once
And they read “God is One”
Today I even remembered to use my Miswak
I got to say it was a good day.

Thanks for invite Bushra, I've got a couple I'd like to enter. They're hip hop classics re-fixed Islamo-style. I'm working on another one, I'll post when done.

Good luck all!

QUOTE(hagary @ 7 Jul 2008, 09:23 AM) *
salam

the study of astrology is haram, as it involves the movement of stars, predicting the future.{fortune-telling}

Astrology (studying stars with the belief they effect occurrences on earth) is haram but what the sisters were talking about was astronomy (scientific study of space).

Brother Saeed's post does say astrology, by mistake perhaps?

Salams Yallz,

I agree we shouldn't write him off completely, I personally have benefited immensely from his book on ants when I was starting off practicing in the deen. Gave me such an iman boost, literally had me in tears. But when I lent it to my cousin he wasn't impressed at all. Every person is different I suppose.

Br Abu Nurah - Inayat Bunglawala has some criticisms you may want to check (in the Guardian link on first post).

The point about him appealing to laypeople is that his arguments are too simplistic and using Christian sources does not do him any favours when those same sources are rejected because they misquote and misrepresent the evolutionists a lot of the times, and HY has been accused of doing the same. For example an analogy HY and Christians use is the one about a tornado ripping through a junk yard and Boeing 747 coming out from it (as in that is the probability of evolution). But the evolutionists don't even believe anything close to that, he is completely misrepresenting their arguments. It appeals and makes sense to the laypeople but enrages the evolutionists and makes them think religious people are idiots and liars.

It's why I mentioned the Islam is peace thing, only heard things like that from speeches by old school uncles from the early 90's (may Allah bless them all), in my eyes credibility is lost by saying things like this.

I personally like the way Shaykh Nuh deals with it, instead of focusing too much on disproving their ever changing theories ask them the big questions like explain consciousness? How did morality develop?

To believe human beings evolved from apes is kufr, plain and simple.

Evolution may occur in animals and plants, but the cause isn’t random, or natural selection, Allah is the cause and effect of everything.

What I have problem with (I think same as Fiddy) is the way some Muslims argue against evolution. Like Harun Yahya, who (as far as I know) isn't a scientist nor a scholar. He uses a lot of Fundamentalist Christian sources who have their own agenda. They believe in stupidness like the world was created 6000 years ago, dinosaurs aren't real… And the way they present a lot of info is dishonest. I read a debate between a Muslim and an agnostic about this and the agnostic asked why are Muslims so unimaginative that they have to appeal to the false authority of Fundo Christians whose beliefs are flatly incompatible to Muslims?

Harun Yahya is a populist; appealing to the masses, to the layman, but is discussing quite complicated scientific issues. Critics (Muslim) say some arguments put forward by Harun Yahya et al are embarrassing to say the least. I'm not well read enough in evolution/biology (into me physics) to say what exactly is wrong with HY's arguments. The way he writes though (as per link for Evolution Deceit above) gives reason to believe he is not too dissimilar to the way Christian fundos put forward their argument. His stuff about consequences of social Darwinism is interesting but does not go in depth enough.

HY approaches the subject too simplistically; I don't think scientists take him seriously enough to even bother critiquing him.
Also in that link to Evol Deceit he repeats that tired old line "Islam is derived from the word peace". No it is not!!! Islam is the verbal noun (masdar) of 'Aslama' (to submit) - the 4th form of the verb 'salima' - to make whole, to be safe.

There needs to be more Muslim biologists who are also steeped in the traditional Islamic sciences who can respond to the evolutionists properly.

Land of the free?
Home of the brave?
Land of the greedy
who kept a race enslaved
Land of the bloody
with blood the Constitution engraved
(stolen) Land of the free
but the Arawek forgave?
Land of the fatty
with greed the streets are paved
Land of the stingy
where world's wealth exclaved
Land of Disney
where Hollywood educates way to behave
Land of the free
home of the knave
Land of the angry
by Hiroshima the world was "saved"
Land of JD whiskey
where the KKK still rave
Land of the nasty
where the CIA created the crack crave
Land of the ugly
whose soldiers act depraved
Land of the dirty
who made Falluja a grave
Land of the lazy
where Kyoto waived
Land of the unholy
to the world McDonalds it gave
Land of the free?
Home of the slaves.

This site seems to be run by people from the 'Quran only' sect. They reject ALL the ahadith of the blessed Rasul Allah (sal Allahu 'alayhi wasallam). No need to say, their ideas are complete nonsense. A few of these characters are going around different forums posting their batil ideas. I read one piece where some semi-literate (I'm being generous there) fool said she analysed the hadith literature and found many mistakes and absurdities so she rejects them all. All the scholars from the Salaf to the Khalaf were wrong and fabricated the hadiths to further their own goals! Moron.

Stay away, they is proper astray.

Though I don't agree with a lot of what Uncle Sardar usually comes out with, I think he's got it right in this case. "Scientific miracle" is an oxymoron. I don't think Harun Yahya's books are meant to be taken as serious science texts, what specifically have you read in HY books that you have issues with £1.50? I bought a couple of books years back (those colourful pages sold it), they seemed to be way too dumbed down. I remember I did like the one on Ants though.

I've not read HY's stuff on evolution but most of the arguments I've heard from Muslim and Christian speakers have been quite poor, embarrassing at times. There is no definitive proof that the theory of evolution is true, neither is there for creationism - it's faith, from sacred teachings. Faith does not belong in the realm of science and science isn't qualified to answer if God exists or not. I can't see how this understanding will ever change.

QUOTE(£1.50 @ 5 Jun 2008, 05:12 PM) *
I'm sure we've all read about the miracles in the Quran and all the Harun Yahya evolution is a myth stuff.

But unfortunately many of us seem to read this type of material without any real knowledge or even question any of the sources people like Harun Yahya use.

Now I'm no scientist (or a renowned scholar for that matter) but I don't accept many of the claims made by Harun Yahya. Firstly - he is no scientist himself and he has no credibility in the scientific community.

So what's the point of this post?

I read the following article today and even though I don't know much about the author or his background - what he's written seems to make sense.

The point of this post is not to start a heated debate. Its just to present an alternative idea and approach to the one by the likes of Harun Yahya and others.

PS and before anyone says anything - yes I have read Harun Yahya stuff on evolution and seen the Dr. Zakir Naik talks/lectures.

The four pillars of Islam (Salaat, Fasting, Zakat and Hajj) - are 'drills' to create discipline, brotherhood, and prepare the Believers for the ultimate sacrifice - JIHAD in the way of Allah.

Jihad (martial) is done so the Laws of Allah could be established in a land or so the land where this is already established can be protected. So Salat, Sawm, Zakat, Hajj can all be performed - to say these pillars are "drills" to prepare for Jihad is incorrect or at best a flawed understanding. Salat, sawm etc may have aspects which can help to prepare for Jihad like discipline and brotherhood but they are not done for the purpose of preparation for Jihad specifically. The opposite is infact the case, Jihad can be performed specifically for one of the 5 pillars. Like Abu Bakr (ra) did with the group that refused to pay the Zakat.

Numerous Ahadith mention the high status of Jihad, eg:

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z-Zinad from al-A'raj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "By He in whose hand my self is! I would like to fight in the way of Allah and be killed, then brought to life again so I could be killed, and then brought to life again so I could be killed." Bukhari and Muslim.

There are also many Ahadith that say seeking sacred knowledge or dhikr of Allah is better than fighting in Jihad.

The Prophet said: "Shall I tell you something that is the best of all deeds, constitutes the best act of piety in the eyes of your Lord, elevates your rank in the hereafter, and carries more virtue than the spending of gold and silver in the service of Allah, or taking part in jihad and slaying or being slain in the path of Allah?" They said: "Yes!" He said: "Remembrance of Allah." Related on the authority of Abu al-Darda' by Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Bayhaqi, Suyuti in al-Jami` al-saghir, and Ahmad also related it from Mu`adh ibn Jabal

The best Jihad for a Believer to fight in the cause of Allah to establish His Law and eradicate oppression of all kinds.

The best Jihad is Jihad done solely for the sake of Allah and which is accepted by Allah, whatever form this Jihad (struggling) takes.

Had it been otherwise - The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) would not had carried out close to 80 military conflicts during the last ten years of his life in Medinah.

The last words of the Prophet (sal Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) were as-Salah as-Salah!

“Isnad is part of religion (deen), and if it was not for Isnad, one would have said whatever one desired. When it is said (to the one who speaks without an Isnad): “Who informed you? He remains silent and bewildered.”

"The one who seeks matters of his deen without an Isnad is similar to the one who climbs to the roof without a ladder.”

Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak

^ Was the talk held at the LMC? Habib Ali al-Jifri was one of the speakers so I really wanted to attend but was unable to. My ancestors (from my dad's side) were among the Yemeni Arabs who came to Sylhet. cool.gif biggrin.gif

Yep it was the one at the LMC, Habib Ali and Maulana Hassan gave really good talks that night. Habib visited Sylhet in 1998, stayed at the Shah Jalal mosque for 3 nights. Wow that's so cool about your lineage! Your ancestors were people of jihad, fighting the enemies of Allah, fighting shaytan, fighting the nafs... struggled in the path of Allah all their lives. We ask Allah to make us like them, amin.

"Btw, Brother BM - didn't know you were one of us...biggrin.gif"

I was born in East London and I support Liverpool FC - I gotta be Sylheti! smile.gif

Furana = old eg 'furana iskool' means 'old school' biggrin.gif

Next shobdoh: dorja

I went to a really interesting talk about Sylhet recently. When the Yemeni Arabs (Shah Jalal and his 360 companions) came to Sylhet and settled there, many of them married and lived in Sylhet. They made a huge impact in that society, even on the language.
There is a theory that Sylhet has a such a distinct dialect compared to the rest of B'desh is due to the Arab influence. eg Sylhetis say 'fani' (water) as opposed to 'pani', there is no 'P' in Arabic so the P changed to an 'F'. And the letter "kha" (as in khalas) made it into the dialect - 'akhol' (intellect) instead of 'akol', ekhla (alone) / Ekla. Also a written Sylheti scriptexisted which was written from right to left like Arabic.
